Unseasonal rain during March-April, which is the very beginning of this year’s crop has damaged the Kerala raw cashew quality. Further rain will make it difficult for the crop to survive the season. According to trade experts, raw cashewnuts around 9%-10% driage should be processed with in 5-6 weeks after drying, otherwise there will be more and more rejections and lower grades. So, south Indian processors are now making their bulk purchases in Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka.
