Only GST Authorities can Fix HSN Codes for Cashew Shells, Rejections and Husk

Edible items of the cashew industry fall under Chapter 08 of the HSN code in the GST billing system. But the problem is in the non-edible by-products.

The industry itself can not create a heading or subheading for non-edible items under Chapter o8. Globalized system may not accept mixing of edible and non-edible products in this chapter. Chapter for coconut is not for coconut shells. Rice bran is different from the chapter in which rice related items are included.

Cashew husk and rejection are not fit for human consumption. Even animals can not eat the outer shell of cashew nut which contains CNSL. CNSL and Cardanol (Purified and Distilled CNSL) are placed in Chapter 13 which is for Lac; gums, resins and other vegetable saps and extracts.

Any HSN code created for cashew shells, rejections, and husk should be acceptable to the international HSN standards.
