Fruits vs Dry Fruits

Fresh fruits look cheaper than dry fruits but fruits contain almost 75-90% moisture whereas the water percentage is just 2-3% in cashews and almonds. If one pays Rs180/kilo apple, he actually pays much more than this, i.e in return to this amount he gets only 200grams of dry substance.

In India, Price rise in cashew kernel is much lower when compared to other food inflation in the past few years. Ten years ago the retail price of W320 was Rs350/kilo but today it is around Rs550/kilo. In the same period, the price of superior quality apple rose from Rs50/kilo to RS180 kilo!

Cashew farmers are the poorest in the world as the crop is highly labor intensive.
